Why we built online audio programs after 39 years in person

Short answer
We built Collège Unica's online audio programs because 39 years of in-person teaching at Musitechnic taught us what works, and too many people who want to learn audio cannot be in a Montréal classroom. NNC.0S and NNC.0N bring that practical, job-focused approach online, with a real studio in the browser.
Why now, after 39 years of in-person training?
I have spent decades watching students light up in a studio. Musitechnic is an audio school in Montréal with 39 years of experience, more than 5,000 graduates and an 80% placement rate. Nothing replaces that room. But two things changed: the tools now run in a browser, and AI tutoring has become good enough to be genuinely useful. For about two years we have been rebuilding how we teach around both.
What are NNC.0S and NNC.0N?
They are two online A.E.C.-style audio programs run by Collège Unica at nnc.unica.college.
- NNC.0S, Sound recording and sound design: 960 hours, 13 competencies.
- NNC.0N, Sound techniques for video games and image: 915 hours, 14 competencies.
Each has 4 sessions, and every course has 15 weekly classes. The catalogue holds 26 courses, and some are shared by both programs, such as audio industry, DAW, recording 101 and mixing 101.
What stays the same from the classroom?
The philosophy. Musitechnic is continuing education: practical, and aimed at a job. Our graduates work in very diverse jobs, not only in audio, because careful listening, technical discipline and project work travel well. So every online class is built around doing, not watching. You read or watch a lesson with studio examples, then you open Musitechnic Studio in your browser and do the lab yourself. An automatic check gives specific feedback, a short quiz confirms what stuck, and our AI tutor Unica Tutor is there when you are stuck.
What does the online format change?
Access and pace. You can study from anywhere, one weekly class at a time, and you can try before you commit: class 1 of every course is free, with no account and no card. You also get a clear picture of your progress. A "My skills" map shows where you stand, competency by competency, and badges mark each course, session and program you complete.
What does it cost, and what is the honest fine print?
One session is $2,700 CAD. The full program is $6,480 for local students and $8,000 for international students. You pay by card online, and you do not need to register to buy. Collège Unica is a private non-profit college in Montréal (établissement code 749841). I will not oversell it: Unica Tutor is an AI, so double-check important information, and it supports human mentors rather than replacing them.
