Meet Unica Tutor: how our AI tutor teaches, and its limits

Short answer
Unica Tutor is Collège Unica's AI tutor. It teaches by text or voice, explains, draws on a whiteboard, and gives progressive hints instead of quick answers. It is an AI, so important information should always be double-checked, and it does not replace human mentors.
Who is Unica Tutor?
Unica Tutor is the AI tutor inside every class of our online audio programs. It has two voices, matching two of our teachers, Élise and Marc-André, so you can pick the one that speaks to you. You can write to it or talk to it, and it is there when you are stuck on a lab, a concept or a quiz question.
How does Unica Tutor teach instead of just answering?
Four techniques do most of the work.
- Hint ladder. Unica Tutor starts with a small nudge, then a bigger one, and only then a fuller explanation. You do the thinking first.
- Explain it back. Unica Tutor asks you to restate the idea in your own words, then points out what is missing or off.
- Confidence quiz. You answer and rate your confidence from 1 to 5. Over time, calibration shows whether your confidence matches your results.
- End-of-class wrap-up. Unica Tutor summarizes what you covered and suggests a clear next step.
Why confidence ratings?
Because feeling sure and being right are different things. In audio, a confident mistake, such as trusting your ears in an untreated room, can cost you for years. Rating confidence from 1 to 5 shows you where you are overconfident and where you know more than you think. That is more useful than a score alone.
What are Unica Tutor's honest limits?
I want to be direct about this.
- Unica Tutor is an AI. It can be wrong, so double-check anything important.
- It does not replace human mentors and teachers.
- Contact hours, in the ministry sense, count only supervised time with a teacher, mentor or tutor. We do not promise any recognition for time spent with Unica Tutor.
I would rather you use Unica Tutor as a patient practice partner, available late at night, than treat it as an authority.
How does Unica Tutor fit in a class?
It is the last step of every class: lesson, lab in Musitechnic Studio, automatic check, mini quiz, then Unica Tutor. It works with your lab and your quiz results, so help is tied to what you actually did.
Is Unica Tutor good for beginners?
Yes, because the hint ladder lets you start from wherever you are. If you know a little, a small nudge may be enough. If you are lost, you can keep climbing the ladder until the idea makes sense, and then explain it back to confirm that it did.
