Can an AI tutor really teach audio?

    Short answer

An AI tutor can teach parts of audio very well: it is patient, always available, and it adapts to your questions. It cannot replace a human mentor, who brings judgment, experience and accountability. At Collège Unica, our tutor Unica Tutor supports the lessons and labs, and it works alongside human mentors, not instead of them.

What does an AI tutor do better than a textbook?

A textbook is the same for everyone and it never answers back. A tutor can. When you do not understand why a compressor is pumping, you can ask, and Unica Tutor will explain it another way.

    In practice, Unica Tutor can:

    • answer by text or by voice
    • explain a concept and draw it on a whiteboard
    • give progressive hints instead of the answer straight away (a hint ladder)
    • ask you to "explain it back" in your own words, which shows what you really understood
    • quiz you with confidence ratings from 1 to 5, so you can see when you are sure but wrong
    • finish each class with a wrap-up and a clear next step

None of this is magic. It is simply attention, available at any hour, which a printed page cannot give.

    Who is Unica Tutor?

Unica Tutor is our AI tutor. It has two voices, based on two of our teachers, Élise and Marc-André. Unica Tutor is an AI, and I want to be very direct about that: it can be wrong. Double-check anything important, especially before you rely on it in a real session with a client.

What does a human mentor still do?

A lot. A human mentor listens to your actual mix, notices your habits, and tells you what to work on next because they have seen hundreds of other people make the same mistakes. They share how the industry really works, they know when to push you and when to slow down, and they can be held accountable in a way software cannot.

Taste is a good example. Audio is a craft with technical rules, but also with judgment. Judgment is learned from people who have it.

There is also a formal point. Contact hours in the ministry sense count only supervised time with a teacher, mentor or tutor. We do not promise any recognition on that basis, and we say so plainly.

How do we combine the two?

Each class follows the same path:

    1. A lesson with studio examples
    2. A lab in Musitechnic Studio, in your browser
    3. An automatic check with specific feedback
    4. A mini quiz of three questions, with instant feedback
    5. The AI tutor, to go further on what is still unclear

The tutor handles the repetition and the "ask it a hundred times" questions. Human mentors stay for what needs a person. You can try the first class of every course for free, with no account and no card, at nnc.unica.college/?try=1.
